To maintain ledger efficiency and prevent spam on the Ripple network, every account must hold a minimum base reserve of 1 XRP to be considered active on the blockchain.
Additionally, holding other assets (tokens) within that account requires an "owner reserve" of 0.2 XRP per object to establish a trustline. A trustline is the on-chain authorization that allows your account to hold a specific token issued by another party.
The initial activation of the account and the creation of any token trustlines are performed via on-chain transactions that incur network fees and require a valid signature. You can track these events in your transaction history and recent activity logs.
For example, if you manage a wallet account that holds asset wallets for five different issued tokens on the XRP Ledger, your main XRP wallet must maintain a minimum balance of 2 XRP:
1 XRP for the base account reserve, plus
0.2 XRP for each of the five tokens.
